The practice of Smoke Cleansing has long been a part of Pagan Culture. By burning plants, herbs or leaves, smoke is used to ward off evil, protect people from ill will and for ceremonial and medicinal uses. Based on my Nordic heritage, I like the term Reykr ("smoke" in Icelandic from Old Norse) for my practice, but I also use the term "smudging" since it is more recognizable**.
Sound can also be used to cleanse a space as a preference or if you cannot have flame or smoke in your home or office. I use singing bowls (Skàl), rattles, bells or chant to resonate energy frequencies in a space and shake off the bad stuff.
